I know that for VS2005, VSTO was a separate package. I did play with the
VB2005 express edition, but all of my office automation has continued to be
strictly in VBA.
I've heard that in VS2008, VSTO is fully integrated into VS. However, I
haven't seen whether that is true for all editions of VS, or only some
editions. As a hobby programmer I'm still not going to go blow a significant
chunk of cash on the full VS, but I'd play with VS2008 as an office
automation option if it is available in Express.
Given MS's likely strategy to get folks moving from VBA to .Net over the
next however many versions of office (and recognizing that VBA will still be
supported for the foreseeably future, not trying to start a thread war
here), it makes sense that this would be an area where they would want users
to have access to the tools for office automation, but I was unable to find
this info on the MS website, and I'm on the road and don't have access (to
high bandwidth, or to my own IT-locked PC) to install it here and try it
myself.
Has anyone here installed an express edition, and if so, can you confirm
whether or not office automation templates are available/included?
Thanks for any info,
Keith
