Office Basic 2003 to Office Standard or Professional 2007?

I am currently using Office Basic 2003. Will the upgrade version of Standard
2007 or Professional 2007 work? Or do I have to buy the full version?
Thanks!

Yes, Office Basic 2003 is an upgrade qualifier for Office 2007.

The only caveat to the upgrade with this product (Office 2007) is that if
you wanted to transfer the product to a different computer later you could
not "legally" do so. Office Basic is an OEM version and as such it can only
be installed on the original machine and it can't be transferred to another
machine. Since you use that as an upgrade qualifier, according the the
license agreement the 2007 upgrade package takes on the original license of
the 2003 upgraded product so technically it also becomes an OEM version.
OEM versions can only be installed on one computer. Now, there aren't many
Microsoft license police out there so if you should ever want to install
onto another machine you probably could without an issue as long as the new
machine had a product installed that would qualify as an upgrade product.

Thank you! I couldn't find that information when I looked for it on the site.

Oops! That might be a problem. I just actually bought a new computer due to
the dreaded BSOD on my old one. I installed Office 2003 from the old
computer to the new. (I also keep getting the license agreement screen come
up each time I open any of the programs, and can't get it to stop!)

Now what?

Depending on what you want to do.... the official comment would be to
uninstall and don't use the Office Basic 2003 program on the new computer as
it is in violation of the EULA, including using it as an upgrade 2007
qualifier on the new computer.

Once you uninstall it and also any Office 2007 trial software, see if your
new computer came with Microsoft Works (Start, Programs (or All Programs),
Microsoft Works.) If it did, you are home free as that is a qualifying
product for upgrade to Office 2007. Works 9 does have an issue but is
readily solved with this KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943290.

The unofficial word is to follow the official word above about the
uninstalls and then install Office 2007 upgrade and if it can't find Works
or another qualifier put the 2003 Basic CD in and use it as the qualifier.

Great! That'll work either way! I was able to get the license screen to
stop coming up by running as adminstrator. But it's nice to know I can
upgrade with Works at the base.

Thanks for the help!!
