Office Basic 2007 Installations

My boyfriend recently got a new work computer, and it came with Microsoft
Office Basic 2007 preinstalled on it. With the computer, he received the CD
for Office Basic 2007 w/the product key. I wanted to upgrade Office on the
home computer, but I was just concerned about him losing/risking losing his
work info or messing up any installations on his work computer. How many
different computers can one product/product key be installed on at the same
time? Thanks so much!

How many and what type of computers a specific version of Office 2007 can be
installed depends on the End User License Agreement for that version.

Office Basic 2007 is sold only as OEM and can only be installed on the
computer it on which it was pre-installed by the OEM. You legally cannot
install it on your computer or any other computer.

Since you have a version of Office {and assuming it qualifies for a upgrade}
you may want to consider an upgrade version. For personnel non-commercial
use you may find Office 2007 Home and Student suitable. You can find
qualifying products for various version of Office 2007 here:

You can find best prices at places like Amazon.com.

If you purchased a PC together with Office then probably its an OEM copy
only licensed for the single PC it was supplied with.
If on the work PC you open Word, Help will display the version info, or the
Office cd may display OEM
