Run the Windows Install Clean Up Utility and see if there is anything
left from Office 2007.
As a test, put a CD into your drive instead of leaving it empty (or
vice-versa if there is one in right now)

I am installing from the desktop, I have 10GB free and the %temp% dir is empty.
I am positive now with what the error is.
I unpacked the B2TR and started installing with just the ProWW.msp file. It
gave the same error message as the original Beta release.
For some reason, it gets half way through and stops with an "Out of disk
space" error:
"Out of disk space -- Volume 'I:'; required space 3,422 KB; available space:
0KB. Free some disk space and click 'Retry'."
As I said, my I: drive is a CD Drive, so it will always fail if it tries to
use that location.
I've never installed it from a CD which rules out the possibility of it
looking at a "previous installation path" variable (or similar if it exists).
It's as if the MSI has something set to try to use the I: drive for its temp
location.
Thanks again for your time Patrick
:
"Unspecified error" while "Applying Patch"...not exactly helpful
Are you trying to install the patch from a CD? If yes, copy the file to
your hard drive. You have 2 GBs on your Windows drive free? Also, delete
everything in %temp%

Sorry Patrick!
Thanks for helping me though.
This is an excerpt from the log:
OPatchInstall: Property 'SYS.ERROR.CODE' value '0x80004005'
OPatchInstall: Property 'SYS.ERROR.INERROR' value '1'
OPatchInstall: Property 'SYS.ERROR.TYPE' value 'HRESULT'
I believe I have found what the problem is.
By trying to repair-install the orginal Beta release (since my after
attempting the B2TR install, all office programs wont start) I get an error
telling me that I am out of space on Drive "I:" which is strange since that
is my CD drive.
Finding the problem was one thing, but I cannot think of how to get a
solution as both my %tmp% and %temp% are correctly set up.
Thanks Again

What is it that since I became an MVP yesterday, everyone is hijacking
other threads instead of starting their own one?
What's the last value of SYS.ERROR.CODE?

I am having the same problem and wonder if I could ask your help too Patrick.
I have started my own thread, however it is in the Office.Setup section.
The last SYS.PROC.RESULT value for me is 17302.
Your help would be much appreciated,
Chris

I posted this Friday with no response. Reposting hoping someone with answer
just missed it over the weekend.
Trying to Install the Beta 2 Technical Refresh.
Runing XP Pro. Have the Beta 2 of office installed and been using it. I was
also using the BCM beta. I uninstalled the BCM beta (per instructions for its
TR) before trying to install the Office TR.
The error I get is the one "The Installation of this package failed. Please
see for more information".
I know that that error should point you to KB923718. And I have gone there
and followed all the info there (clear temp directory, I got 25 gig of free
space). I created a log per instructions, put I don't see how to post that
here.
Based on other messages I've seen I know the sys.proc.result value from the
log is helpful to know. I have two different values in the log for it 17021
and 17303
