Office can't start because it is already in use

Every time I open Microsoft word I get a message that says this:
"Microsoft Office 2004 cannot start because Microsoft Office is
already in use. An Office program is already being used by ____. Your
installation exceeds the number of installations permitted by the
license agreement. Click more information to learn about Microsoft
Office licensing." I don't understand why this is happening because
the download I used was only the second of three. I have had this
problem since I loaded Microsoft office for mac onto my new macbook
pro just a few weeks ago. Initially it only happened when I was using
the wireless internet here on campus where I go to college. But now it
is happening even when I am connected to the internet through
broadband. Is there something I need to do in preferences or something
in order for my copy to realize it is "legal"? Thanks!

Sounds like you inadvertently entered the same CD key twice. Run Office
Remover, and at the opening dialog, hold down the option key and click
on "Remove licensing information". Start an Office app, and when asked,
use one of the other keys.
