Office Communicator 2005

Scott

Maybe someone could shed some light on this issue.

Setup:

I'm currently testing my Live Communication 2005 Server with Office
Communicator 2005 with a mix of XP and Vista clients.

In the past we've used the Messenger 5.1 client on a SIP setup to
communicate with our VPN people using TLS. We use this for messaging but most
importantly we use remote desktop to troubleshoot our employees problems.

Soon we will be upgrading our people to Vista. Messenger 5.1 is not
compatable with Vista so I am testing Communicator 2005 version 1.0.559.218.

I've installed this on Vista and Windows XP Professional patched to the most
current.

When I try to establish a sharing session from the XP machine, I get a the
invitation but when I click Accept on Vista, the XP client states,

"%username% does not have data sharing session installed(or it is disabled)
and is not able to accept your invitation."

If I were to initiate from the Vista machine, I get,

"A data sharing session could not be established with %username%. Please try
again. If the problem persists, please contact your system administrator.

I am not finding much information on this issue. Any help would be
appreciated.

I am by no means an expert, but I seemed to use my old skool QA experiance to
test a solution.

I found that the XP machines could continue using Messenger 5.1. The Vista
client I am testing has Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 installed. I found
I could not start remote assistance, app sharing or Whiteboard from the app
intself from either client.

What I discovered is that the XP client could initiate the hanshake by
Starting Remote assistance from the Start > All Programs > Remote Assistance

From the Vista client I initiated it by running Start > All Programs >
Maintenance > Windows Remote Assistance.

The XP Machine can run Messenger exclusivly but I still like the
Communicator interface better.

Hope this helps...
