Office Database Damaged

Hello,

I seem to have some damage to my Entourage Database.

In my "Junk Mail" and "Sent Mail" subfolders there gray areas where some messages were at that appear to be corrupted. When those gray areas appear in the window I get the following message:
"Your Office database is damaged - Do you want to quit MSN Messenger and all Microsoft Office programs so that the Database Utility can run?", with a "Cancel" or "Quit Office Programs" button to chose from.

If I try to delete the gray/missing messages, along with or apart from other messages, I get the following messages:
"The action could not be completed. An unknown error 4363 occurred."

I have attempted to run the Database Utility, and it does run, but it creates a new identity for me, and the gray/missing messages are still present.

Is there a way to get my database cleaned up? I would be happy to move to a newer version, but I don't want the corrupted info to follow me.

Just to be sure I'm understanding you correctly. You have run the rebuild
and still have the problem. As long as you can open your Identity you can
salvage your data and start with a new Identity.

How to manually move your data in Entourage 2004 & 2008

The Entourage archive (.rge) is probably the quickest. Let me know if you
need further help.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for your prompt response.

I have run the utility and I do still have the problem.

When I export my data using the instructions on the page referenced in your response I get the following error:

"Export/Import Incomplete/"There was a problem saving one of your messages. Your Office database may be damaged. Start the Database Utility to verify your database""

Thanks!

I have run the utility and I do still have the problem.

"Export/Import Incomplete/"There was a problem saving one of your messages.

Make a backup copy of your Identity NOW!!!! As long as you can open your
Identity you can salvage the data. Work from the copy.

This means your data is damaged. You will need to use the MBOX method for
files. It deals with folders where the Entourage archive (.rge) is an all in
one approach. There is a script that will do this for you manually, but I'm
not sure what will happen when it hits the corrupted folder. I would run it
first. It might get many of your folders before it hits corruption. Once you
hit the bad folder (it could be more than one) most likely you will have to
drag each folder out individually. You could try deleting the bad folder and
see if the script will complete.

Now to the bad folder...you can drag individual messages to the desktop.
Select all and drag (make a folder to drag messages!) If you have more than
200 the Finder might balk. You might have to drag in groups of 200.

You should be able to use the Entourage archive (.rge) option for tasks,
notes, calendar events and contacts. Just make selections.

Scripts------------

I've used Barry's script. The one by Jolly is new and I haven't tested it
yet. It does deal with subfolder better.

Archive Message Folders By Jolly Roger
<http://jollyroger.kicks-ass.org/ArchiveMessageFolders.zip>

This script archives each folder in your Entourage folder list to a folder
on your desktop named "Entourage Archives". The script preserves the
hierarchy of the folders, as they exist in the Entourage folders list, by
creating sub-folders in the "Entourage Archives" folder that correspond to
the sub-folders in Entourage. The exported MBOX files have the same name as
the folders in Entourage, with the exception that forward slash characters
(/) are replaced with dash characters (-) to avoid problems with the Mac OS
X file system.

Export Folders By: Barry Wainwright
<http://scriptbuilders.net/files/exportfolders1.1.html>
This script will archive ALL your Entourage mail folders as MBOX files
(standard UNIX mailbox format) to a folder on the desktop. It will also
(optionally) set the file type to TEXT so that they can be recognized by
applications other than Entourage. (subfolders are mixed in with root
folders. Name subfolders uniquely!)
