Office Document Imaging Error

S

Scott

This is for Office 2003 running on Windows XP.

Whenever I try to "Make Annotations Permanent" in Office Document Imaging, I
get the error message "There is not enough memory to complete this
operation." I have tried both TIFF and MDI formats, on several different
computers. I know I have plenty of hard drive, RAM, and virtual memory free,
so I think the error message may be misleading.

Yes, now that you mention it, they do. They are all scanned B&W schematics
from a 3rd party. I just tried creating my own TIFF and I was able to make
the annotations permanent.

Now I'm wondering if the problem is something to do with the way they are
creating/saving the TIFF files. I've messed around with the Save options in
Office Document Imaging but none of them fix the problem on these files.

What is the "physical" size of the scan in inches. Also, the files
aren't read-only?

S

Scott

The files are not read only. I'm not sure what size the physical documents
are, but I can tell you they take 3 screen widths on a 19" screen (1280x1024
resolution) at 100% zoom. So yeah, they're pretty huge, though the file size
is quite low.

Humm, what information is available if you r-click the file then
Properties, and Image tab?

S

Scott

Wow. It's 13200x10200 pixels. That's pretty huge. Vertical and horizontal
resolution is 300 dpi. Bit depth 1, Frame Count 1.

That works out to a page size of 44x34. I know word gets pretty cranky
at anything over 22 inches. Perhaps use IRfanview to annotate it
instead? Or maybe change the resolution to "600 dpi" and then Imaging
will think the page size is only 22x17 and not toss its cookies?

Thanks a lot for your input Bob. I think the size issue is the root of the
problem - I'm using different software and it's working well. I appreciate
your ideas.

Thanks for the post back. Glad to hear you have a satisfactory solution.
may I ask what software?
