Office documents are encrypted.

I backup my office documents(Excel&Word) in My document folder into external
harddisk. I reinstalled Windows 2000 and Office 2000. I want to restore my
backup, but can't. The message display that these folders and documents are
encrypted, you cann't open them and copy them. How to solve this problem.

Did you encrypt those files using Windows? (E.g. right-click the folder in
Explorer and choose Security | Encrypt Contents)? If so, are logged into a
Domain?

If you used Windows to encrypt the files, and you're not logged into a
domain, and you didn't create an encryption recovery disk before you
reinstalled Windows, you will not be able to decrypt any files.
