Office Documents Slow to open on Double click.

Hi,

Having an issue globally on my network where a user will double click an
office document and it takes about 10 seconds for the appropriate app to
open then a further 10-15 seconds for the document to open.

If the same user opens an app first then uses file > open to open the file
office reacts instantly.

This is with any office file opened locally or on a network resource
(mapped/browsed and shared).

Have already looked at my AV software (eTrust) and this doesn't seem to be
doing anything to get in the way.

Any help appreciated.

I have the same problem on a new (fast) computer on our network. We are
using Office97. One of the older computers on the network still works
properly.

This problem can also be caused by ACT!8. The preload setting needs to be
changed from -stayrunning to -preload in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I have the same thing happening
here. Affects Win2k, XP, Office 2000, Office 2003. The only definite
thing that fixes this is unplugging the network cable or disabling the
Altiris client service.
