Office doesn't work after XP reinstall

I reinstalled Windows XP & then Office XP for teachers &
students. Now the system doesn't recognise that Outlook
is there & I get error messages for all the components of
Office. Windows installer pops up when I open them, but
then disappears. Word seems to work OK after that.
Outlook is the biggest problem. I can't find an inbox.
Contacts, calendar, notes etc won't display. I can't set
up an email account. I've system restored, uninstalled,
repaired.

Does anyone know what has happened & how I can fix it?

I've since got some of it to work. I can't import my
notes & contacts. I saved them in comma separated values
Windows. I get error messages after installing the
translator. The Outlook Bar comes up with missing folder
error messages if I try to click on anyhting there but I
can access contacts, notes, inbox etc from the folder
list. The rest of Office seems to be OK now.
