office files not open- MSXML 5.0 not installed

some excel, words not able to open. Error was "MSXML 5.0 not installed'.
Checked and found MSXML 6 was already installed and I was using Office 2003
Professional. Understand MSXML 5.0 is part of Office 2003.
so, I could not figure out where the root cause of the problem. Anyone has
some clue how to solve?
