My files are scrambled like so

øù¤ ü - ú " -
ú ÿÿÿ " - ü - & $ eýí iý vý
ˆý% Âý, °ý. ¿ý+ Æý# Âý •ý «ý Ÿý “ý ‡ý
{ý pýø eýí ü ÿÿÿ - - - - X $ *

áü= íüC ïüP óü^ øük þüx ý… ý‘ ý $ý¨ Eý™ Hý¤ Mý¯ Tý¼ ]ýÈ gýÕ sýá ýí Âý÷

I have tried office recovery and several recovery programmes with no results.

The 20% of files that were scrambled are desperatly needed, luckly I can
scan in 50% of the files but the other 50% are lost to me.
I did not alter the files in any way, one day it was ok the next day
gibberish. I am at a loss.

Scan for viruses, run a disk test, if that fails, use your back-up copy.
