Office Files won’t Save and EULA
BACKGROUND:
My client has a Gateway with P4 256 MB RAM and Windows XP Home and two
users.. When his AOL connection got knocked out by the March 15th Norton
download he called me. I fixed that but I noticed some of the Windows
functions were damaged. In particular, the path to MS Office 2002 Small
Business Edition files had been changed from his side to her side in a
convoluted path (both admin users).
He had lived with this problem for months. So I copied his Word and Excel
files (there are about 600 of them) from her side to a CD and then to My
Documents on his side. We could open these files and Save without difficulty.
We could not perform a Save As function, however.
For this and other reasons, I reformatted the 40GB HD, reinstalled Windows
(clean install), downloaded 40+ Windows Updates. I then installed Office 2002
and downloaded several updates. I opened two Limited user accounts (his and
hers). AOL has not been reinstalled.
Previously, I had backed up the Documents a second time to an external hard
drive. So I copied them over to the new user accounts from the external.
(I’ve done this a hundred times.)
When I returned the refurbished PC, my customer “registered†the Office 2002
with Microsoft via the Internet cable connection.
THE PROBLEMS:
All functions operate properly except the Office and the Documents.
Every time I open the BACKED UP Office Documents, I am prompted to Agree
with the EULA. But not so with a NEW document.
Like before, I can not perform Save As after opening the Office documents.
Not so with a NEW document.
Further, when I Save, the next time I open the documents, the file opens,
but I get an option in the left pane asking if I want the original of the
Saved files. Not so with a NEW document.
Using Windows, I can not see any file attribute that would cause this problem.
Can anyone give me a clue to how to fix this?
