Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I am about to buy a new Macbook Pro and sell my current macbook which currently has Office for Mac 2008 standard installed.

Am I able to install Office for Mac on the new macbook using the installation disk and licence code? I will wipe the old macbook before I sell it but do I have to deactivate the licence on the old macbook first?

Just want to avoid any licence issues.

So this would explain why I am having problems with another Mac I have at home. I recently bought a new iMac and when moving files across from my macbook pro, it asked if I wanted to copy applications as well as part of the iMac setup process.

I chose yes (which I wish I hadn't because i bought Office for Mac with the iMac) and it copied Office for Mac across along with several other apps.

I then couldn't run updates to office even though I removed office for mac and reinstalled and added the new product key. I posted this problem a couple of months ago and never had a response that worked.

Would you know how I fix the iMac?

thanks for your help.

How did you remove Office? Drag to trash or use "Remove Office"??

Office 2008 "Remove Office" does not remove everything. See this page for
items you need to remove manually.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/remove_office.html>

After you remove everything, follow these steps to install:

Thanks Diane for your help.

So when I am manually removing Office and I get to this stage:

d. Move the Office X Identities folder to the Trash.

I first do a back up of this folder. Am I right in thinking that I just copy this folder back once I have installed Office again? Otherwise I'll lose:

Database Cache
Mailing Lists

Where are you seeing stage d?

You do not move your Microsoft User Data folder or any of it's contents. You
are correct. You would loose all your data if you moved the Identities
folder to the trash.

I read it here: <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323675/en-us>

I'm confused as to what your instructions are. I previously dragged the Office folder to the trash and reinstalled but that still didnt allow me to run an update.

From reading your instructions, you say the Office Remove also doesnt remove everything so therefore try removing manually. If I used the remove manually instructions from the link you gave me, it said to remove d. move office x identities folder to trash.

So, can you pls tell me what instructions I should follow so that I can uninstall, then reinstall with the ultimate goal of being able to run Office updates?

Many thanks.

The link I gave you to manually remove lists the word "trash" twice. Neither
times did it say move the Identities folder to the trash.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/remove_office.html>

1) If you drag the Microsoft Office folder to the trash and delete it, it
will remove the applications, but it will not remove preferences and other
hidden files.

2) "Remove Office" is different from dragging the MS Office folder to the
trash.

Where are you see the d. move office x identities folder to trash.

If you remove these in addition to using "Remove Office" you should be able
to reinstall.

receipts in Library/Receipts
receipts start with "office2008"
old receipts could make the AutoUpdater think you are already updated

Automator Actions in Library/Automator

/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Folder (contains MERP,MAU)

Microsoft Preferences in ~/ Library/Preferences
If you do remove your User's Microsoft preferences, be sure to save your
dictionary file in the Microsoft folder in preferences.
