Office for Mac 2011 upgrade version.

Hello, all.

As I browse Microsoft's website for info on the upgrade version of
Office for Mac 2011 I can't seem to find one. I have been using Office
for Mac since version X. I have also purchased version 2004 and
version 2008 which was purchased just 4 months ago when I also
purchased a new MacBook Pro.

Is there an lower priced upgrade version for those who already own
previous versions of Office for Mac ?

In regards to the new licensing scheme, are those who have purchased
the two-license package able to run both at the same time ? In case I
have one installed on my desktop, one on my notebook and they are both
in my own local network will they be able to run Office
simultaneously ?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Nope. They lowered the price of Office in general so they decided not
to offer an upgrade price.

What ???

I really don't mean to turn this post into a debate on Microsoft's
history of poor business decisions.

The fact that the company would turn its back to its large customer
base speaks volumes as to its business philosophy.

There are numerous comparisons I can make. Adobe, for one, has
software in the price range of Office for Mac such as Lightroom that
retails for $ 299 (full version) but is also offered at $ 99 for the
upgrade version. Microsoft should have a similar upgrade scheme for
Office for Mac and there is no excuse for the decision that company
has made.

As it is Office for Mac 2008 is the very last version I intend to use.
In fact I am now installing two new computers I just purchased and a
new local network set-up. Since Office for Mac has indeed a
questionable future considering how Microsoft is managing its
introduction and deployment I will just assume be safe rather than
sorry and move to different applications now instead of having to deal
with a more troublesome transition later.

I will vote with my wallet and send Microsoft a very clear message as
to what my feelings are in regards to corporate greed.

Thank you for your reply, Corentin.

Joe.

I feel a little cheated because I bought both an business edition and a
home edition of 2008 a little under 3 months ago.

Never should have paid all that extra money for the business edition
because you can't run it if your laptop with it installed is networked.

Very disappointed. 2004 was fine.

If you bought it after August 1st, you are entitled to a free upgrade:

Yeah, that's in the licensing terms. You can install on a laptop and a
desktop computer, providing it's not running on both at the same time.
The new 2011 licensing terms are even more stringent: you have a 1
license version (one computer period!), and a 2-pack for a desktop and
a laptop (more expensive).

I learned my lesson. ;-)
