Office Help displays as XML

When I click HELP in any MS Office 2007 application, the window comes up but
with the content displayed as XML. This happens only with the "Content from
this computer," not with the "Content from Office Online." I've tried a
REPAIR re-install to no effect. I would like to be able to access the help
files on my own machine.
