Office Home and Student 07 product key doesn't work

- I bought a new laptop 08-22-07, runs Vista Home Premium
- Office Home and Student 07 trial version was pre-installed, I uninstalled it
- I purchased Home and Student 07, tried to install, but when I type in the
product key from the yellow microsoft sticker inside the cd case I get this
error msg:
"The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then retype
it."
- Yes, I'm SURE the key is being typed correctly
- I installed without entering the key, tried to enter it again after
installation and I get the same error
- I found a tutorial at http://keznews.com/2002_Change_Office_2007_Product_Key
- but when I navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}, there are no DigitalProductID or ProductID entries

I also tried going through http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895/en-us
"How to troubleshoot problems that you may experience when you try to
activate a 2007 Office product", and that didn't work either.

this is really frustrating. please help.
thanks

may I ask why you did all that instead of just converting the trial version
to a full version with the key that you bought?

I'm having a similar problem. I bought a PC on 22nd August with the Microsoft
Office 2007 Home and Student Trial version pre-installed. However, I need to
be running MO2007 Small Business, which the retailer didn't have in stock. I
was advised to purchase it online, which I did through the retailer's online
business outlet.

This morning, I received a CD case through the post, with no CD in it but
one of those Microsoft Genuine Product certificates on the inside front cover.

I went through the motions of typing the product key in but it is not being
accepted. As the morning has worn on, I have downloaded a MO2007 Small
Business Trial and, because every time I went into the Activation Assistant
it came up with the Home and Student Trial instead of the Small Business
Trial. So, I too have uninstalled the Home and Student Trial so that I now
only have the Small Business Trial.

But, to no avail. My 25-letter product key is just not being accepted

Please help!

Thank you

Actually I did run the pre-installed version of Word before I uninstalled
Office, and I was prompted to enter a product key. It didn't work, but I
figured that made sense, since it was just a trial that was installed. I
admit I didn't know about converting from trial to full version but I don't
think that was working for me either.

At this point I've tried what you suggested to no avail. First I
reformatted, and tried to install Office from my newly purchased CD-ROM, the
key wasn't accepted (same error message). So I created a restore point and
then installed the Trial version of Office from my VAIO Recovery Center
application. I got to the point where the Office Activation Wizard says
"Click Convert to begin the conversion process now".
I attempt to enter my Product Key, and I get the same error again.
