If you are using windows XP do the following.

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type: regedt32
Hit Enter
Right-Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and chose Permissions

You should have a few options in the list of usergroups. Click o
SYSTEM
Make sure that Full Control and Read are ticked in the box below.
Click OK.

Double-Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Right-Click on SOFTWARE and chose Permissions

Click on SYSTEM and again make sure that Full Control and Read option
are ticked. Click OK.

Do the following steps in case the error message specify a certai
registry path.

If you are on Windows Vista you can try these step but I haven'
verified that they work.

these instructions don't work for Vista because the pathway is different -
there is no run option in the start menu. Does anyone have any suggestions on
how to change the permissions because I get the same error 1406. I've had a
look at changing the permissions myself but I don't want to make things any
more complicated. I am logged on as an administrator so I should have full
control permissions (although that's just my assumption so I could be wrong
there).

all three every time they answer a question.

change (it looks like a foldler icon) and choose Permissions.
