Piere,

Can you provide details on why you need to find the name of the locally
cached mst file? Even if you know the name of the file you cannot "replace"
this file with another copy to "change" the Office installation. If you can
provide more details on your scenario I might be able to find a different
approach to the problem.

Thanks,

the mst file that was used to deploy to approx 1000 desktop. had some
setting (file location and Registry settings) pointing to network drive that
no longer exist.

and after that the uninstall runs perfectly.

Pierre,

Can you clarify your current environment?

Do you have Office 2000 installed? Outlook 2000 installed? Both products
installed?

It sounds like you are deploying Office XP and the installation succeeds,
however, Outlook 2002 is not getting installed. Please confirm and/or
provide additional details.

We are running Windows 2000 on all deskops (RIS standard cd images used for
the deployment) SP3 inegrated.

Office 2000 without Outlook was deployed via GPO to all workstation
(assigned to computers)
Outlook 2000 was assigned to the user. (dont ask me why, i did not work here
then....)

Now for the Office XP deployment

We want to deploy the Office XP suite including Outlook to all workstation.
(assigned to the computers).

When tested in lab this method gave us the error mentioned in the previous
message. Word , Excel, Powerpoint and Access install properly but Outlook
2000 remains behind because the installer could not uninstall it.

the F:\ reference in the MST have been removed on the MST on the DFS so new
machines will not get the problem. However machine that have already been
deployed have a cached copy of the MST that has the bad reference to drive
F:\.

in Lab we replaced the cached copy with the copy from the network (while
keeping the name of the mst on the c:\winnt\installer directory) when we
deployed Office XP on those machine the installation was successful.

the problem is that the name of the cached MST changes from pc to pc.... so
we need to be able to read the reg key as to the name of the locally cached
mst so we can replace it with a VB script.. Unless you have other
suggestion.

Time is running short over here.... we are scheduled to start the
deployment early next week..... we need to address this issue.

Pierre,

Thanks for the updated information.

Please have a look at the following key to see if you can locate the
transform details you need.

HKCR\Installer\Products\<guid for Outlook 2000 or Office 2000>

The following article outlines the different guids for Office 2000 products.

230848 OFF2000: Numbering Scheme for Product Code GUIDs
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=230848

Hope this helps.
