Office Installation Problem!

I just bought a new computer. When I uninstalled Microsfot Office XP from
the old computer and re-installed it on the new computer, I lost Microsoft
Access. I seem to have lost the license for MS Access in the exchange. I
can open MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint with little problem but when I
try to start MS Access it doesn't open. The computer opens messages
indicating that it is configuring my computer for MS Access but Access never
opens. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find and re-install
my license for MS Access?

Well, it's not a re-install. Your new computer has nothing to do with your old
computer, therefore it's a NEW install not a Reinstall. Why do you say "in the
exchange", there IS NO EXCHANGE (technically). It doesn't matter what you had
installed it on previously.

Since you merely installed OfficeXP on a NEW computer, there is no reason I
can think of why Access would not install. Assuming you chose to install it,
or in Add/Remove programs checked that Access was chosen for installation.

There is no license to lose (assuming you have the original CD's and the
LICENSE KEY)

I can't remember if this version required registering on-line with Microsoft,
but if it did then it was not necessary. If you have, then you should be able
to call Microsoft. Or perhaps check with your new PC supplier.

I can't think of another reason why AccessXP would not install on a new
machine. Anyone else?

Is this Professional version? Developer version?

When you say it "doesn't open", does it just Hang? Does it say Access is not
installed? Does it give any error message? Have you done a cold reboot? (your
PC may just have gone off the rails, which happens often, or a reboot may be
needed after installation even though WindowsXP tries to suppress reboots)

Have you tried completely uninstalling and Installing Office anew? (NOT
reinstalling).

Did your new computer come with some (different) components of Office already
installed?

I'm out of ideas.

Are you simply opening the new Access (Start, Programs, Microsoft Access), or
are you opening it by say double-clicking on one of your own mdb's?

The former would eliminate that there's some problem in one of your mdb's.
