We are using OLCS 2005 with SP1 on Windows Server 2003 with SP1. Clients
are using windows messenger 5.1. Users are able to sign in and, see status,
send and receive instant messages.
On occasion, messages will not be delivered, however and it is not clear
why. Users are signed in, and online, but when a message is sent to them, it
never displays. Here are some more facts about the setup.
Some users log into more than one computer at a time, and sign into IM at
both computers. This was not a problem with Exchange 2000 IM, which was what
we were using prior to migrating to OLCS 2005. The messages would appear on
both computers. This seems to be the case with OLCS 2005 as well, but I
don't know if it complicates the issue.
Users who send several messages tend to keep a conversation open for a long
time, where users who receive a lot of messages will close the windows
frequently. I don't know if there is a timeout on a conversation that could
cause messages to stop being delivered.
Clients are running windows XP with SP2 with the firewall service set to
'disabled'.
Microsoft seems to have little or no information on this topic. What could
our problem be?
