Office Live Communications server - SIP service temporarily unavailable

Gordon Aquilina

Hi,

Can anyone shed some light on this problem I have - I've
so far been unable to find any references to this problem
anywhere on the web - and there doesn't appear to be a
newsgroup available dedicated to live communications
server.

The problem I have is with Microsoft Office Live
Communications server and windows messenger 5.0

I have installed Live Communication server on a windows
2003 server which is a member of a 2003 based domain.

The install went well with no problems - and live
communications server is running on the server ok - not
generating any errors in the event logs.

The Live Communications tab is present in Active
directory users and computers and I am able to enable
users to use live with no problems.

But when I try to connect with Messenger 5 I get the
following error message

Windows Messenger
Signing in to SIP Communications Service failed because
the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again
later
Retry Cancel

Looking at the event logs on my live server I can see
that in the security log
Two events occur as the messenger client attempts to log
on

1st event is
Source = Security
Category: Privilege use
Type: Success A
Event is : 576
User actdir\test
Computer : HOR-LIVE-M01
Description
Special privileges assigned to new logon
User name: test
Domain: ACTDIR
Logon ID: (0x0,0x7AB71)
Prvilileges: SeChangeNotifyPrivilige ,
SeBackupPrivilege,SerestorePrivilige,SeDebugPrivilige

2nd event is
Source : Security
Category: logon/logoff
Type: Success A
Event id: 540
User: actdir\test
Computer: HOR-LIVE-M01
Description
Successful Network Logon
UserName test
Domain ACTDIR
Logon id: (0x0,0x7ab71)
Logon type : 3
Logon process : kerbose
Authentifaction package : kerbose
Workstation Name :
Logon guide {e48c4264-...
Caller User Name -
Caller Domain -
Caller Logon ID
Caller Process ID
Transited Services
Source Network address
Source port

So it looks like the messenger client is talking to the
communications server but getting no further

Messenger is configured to use SIP Communications service
account, with SIP communications service connection
configuration set manually with configure settings set to
Server name or ip address : hor-live-m01
Connect using TCP

Test user has full domain admin rights and client and
server are on same test network segment

If anyone can advise as to how to get my SIP
communications service to become available it would be
greatly appreciated

Thanks

Gordon

Got solution to this from another newsgroup - i was using
a different email domain to my ad domain name - hence I
couldnt log in.

Not very helpful error message though...
