Office Mac 2008 compatibility

I purchased the new Office Mac update after reading about the "increased" compatibility with Windows. Today I created a powerpoint on my mac and test drove it on our PC using Powerpoint 2003. Problem is, it won't even recognize, let along open it. Very frustrating.

Hi,

It sounds like PowerPoint 2003 on the Windows computer has not been updated
with the latest office updates.

Check to make sure that the Windows copy has the latest updates installed,
then try again.

The new Mac version creates Office 2007 files. PC people have been
having the same problem for a year as the new Office saves files in a
new format. You can Save As a Office 2003 (2004 on the Mac) file or
your PC with Office 2003 needs the converters for 2007 found here:

Duh! Why didn't I notice that?

Steve's answer is right on the money, and my answer was wrong in this case.
Sorry about that. Please accept my apology.

Until your PC 2003 users are updated to Office 2007, then use Save As and
choose the ppt file format.

If you want to change PowerPoint's default so that it always saves in the
old format you can go to PowerPoint > Preferences. Click the Save tab and
then change the setting where it says "Save PowerPoint presentations as..."
