How do I enable macros in Office XP? I keep getting a
message window when I open Word or Excel saying that the
macros have not been enabled

go to tools-->macro-->security and change the setting to medium so that it
prompts you before enabling macros.

In addition to Katherine's suggestion, if you are confident in your
antivirus and firewall measures you can set security to low and not be
prompted for enabling macros each time. Do so at your own risk.
