Office not avilable to all users.

B

Bruce Musgrove

Volume licensed Office XP, from a administrative install on a server, using
a MST file to customize some default program settings (such as autosave
time, etc) and to set the ALLUSERS property to 2 (I have also tired it at 1
and blank)

Published in GPO and usually manually installed from ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS .
Command line installs have also been tried using the /jm switrch

When I run the installer as a admin, it installs and runs the programs.
When a different / new users logs on for the first time after install,
Office XP is not available on the menu and will not work if run from office
directory. Instead the new users must run the office installer as if it is
the first time. The XP installer then runs a mini setup for about a minute
and the icons and programs are available.

I have tried configuring a standard user profile, and copying it over the
Default user profile, and this problem still happens for every new user. I
see the same issue with Adobe Reader 6.0x . Can anyone give me a clue how to
fix this? Office needs to be readily availble to any user who logs onto
that machine for the firs time

Hi Bruce,

For each user the installer writes registry entries for
that user or adding 'first use' run options for a given
machine. You may find the information here to be useful

Thanks. I read that document and ....

I need to install office on a per computer basis instead of a per user
basis. I do not see how to do this on 2000 and XP machines, only on 98 and
ME machines. This could explain why I never saw this before the latest
upgrad, as I just recently started deploying 2000 or XP with Office XP.

The only other thing I see that may help is to turn off the "Create Windows
installer shortcuts" feature. I have not tried that yet.
