Office Notifications out of whack

REF: Office 2004 for Mac Version 11.1.0 / OS X 10.3.8

I am experiencing a problem in which Office Notifications appear when they
are not supposed to. For example, if I set a Calendar Event for May 1st
with a 5 day reminder, it shows up in the Office Notification window now.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any suggestions?
