Office OEM upgrade

Hi,

I have Office 2003 OEM installed on my desktop. If I buy a retail upgrade
to Office 2007 will my licence still be restricted to my current computer?
Or if I buy a new computer in six months can I move Office 2007 to the new
computer? i.e. does the retail rules from the new product overrule the OEM
rules of old Old office?

Regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

Other than looking for the upgrade qualifier product during installation (either preinstalled or the CD) a retail upgrade package
will have the retail (one PC and one portable - either or both transferable to a different machine) license of the retail version.

You won't be able to move your existing OEM product.

Bob,

My scenario: I have OEM Office 2000 Small Business originally installed on a
Gateway PC. Looks like I can't transfer it to my new Dell PC, but will I be
able to use the CD's I originally received from Gateway to qualify for
Upgrade Pricing?

Thanks much

Tim

Not Bob but No. The Gateway CDs are tied to the Gateway
computer and the Dell will need a new license. Does the
Dell have a copy of MS Works preinstalled that is properly
licensed (many Dell computers come with it?) If so, that
will qualify for the upgrade.

for upgrade qualification for Office 2007 as this is the
latest version of Office that is widely available. Office
2003 upgrades may still be available from some sources.

It's my understanding that yes, you can use an OEM license as the qualifying
product for an upgrade on a different system. (I'm not 100% positive because
I've never done this tho.)

Provided the OEM cd's are 'proper' MS cd's you can use them as a qualifying
application.
As to whether this is within the terms of the Licence? - I'll leave that to
a coven of legal beagles -
