Office Online Templates

This may be a stupid question, if so I'm sorry for asking. Can I download
and use the templates available for download on the Office online site? I
used so many nice things when I used Office under windows, but I'm not sure
if I will screw up my Office for Mac by trying to use these.

Thanks.

Hi Amy,

the Office Online templates should work just fine on your Mac. Two caveats:
Office for Mac handles templates slightly differently from Windows Office.
You will need to save the downloaded templates in Applications/Microsoft
Office 2004/Templates and then open them from within the Project Gallery in
any of the Office applications (File>Project Gallery). Also, some templates
on Office Online are in the new XML format introduced in Office 2007, and
the site requires the use of Windows Genuine Advantage to make sure that
your copy of Microsoft Office is legal. Unfortunately, that technology only
works on the Windows platform, meaning that you should not be able to
download templates in the new Office XML format.

Additional to Michel's comments you may want to have a look at the following
page. Note that even though the template may not be expressly for 2007 there
are some for the PC which simply will not work on a Mac - it depends on the
template's design. Some of those that don't might be able to be modified if
you know enough about what makes them "tick".

Either way you need not worry about "screwing up Office", but if you run
into any difficulties there are a few experienced users here who will be
more than glad to help you out :)

Hello Amy,
what hasn't been told so far is that some of the templates you
download will not work as they are - they are *. cab file and you need
to "unzip" them for example by stuffit expander prior to place them
into the Office template folder. Templates with extension *.dot, *.pot
or *.xlt you might be able to run directly.

Do not worry about your office. The only thing which may happen is
that the template will look a awfully as interepreted differently on
Mac in comparison with PC. And this you will be able to see.
