Office online update feature won't run - hangs

The office online update feature is not working for me. I click the link that
says "Check for Updates" and it brings me to the page where I would expect
for the browser plug-in to search for available updates, but the page just
sits there and does nothing. The CPU meter tells me that Explorer is using
99% of my CPU, but it never advances. I've let it run for a half hour, but
nothing.

When I tried to do this a couple fo days ago, it looked like IE was trying
to install a new or updated ActiveX plug-in, but the installation process
seemed to inturrupt. I've been having this problem ever since. I tried to use
IE's Plug-In manager to update the Office Update Plug-In, but it says that
I've got the latest.

How can I force a re-installation of the Office Update plugin?

You can delete the file "opuc.dll" in your Windows directory and delete the
OfficeUpdate11 folder in your Program Files directory.

Thanks,

Okay, I did what you suggested. I can no longer find opuc.dll in a files
search of my hard drives, and I deleted the officeupdate11 folder from the
program files directory. I can no longer find the Office Update tool from
IE's plug-in manager.

However, I'm still having the exact same problem as I described below. When
I get to the update page where it should scan for updates, it just hangs and
consumes all my CPU cycles and goes nowhere.

What next?
