Office or Windows???

Steve

I don't know for sure where I should be posting this.
When I hit 'save' on any Office 2000 application it starts in 'My Documents'. I am running Windows XP. It takes several mouse cliks to get to a folder in the 'C' directory where I keep everything.

Is there a way to always get 'save' to start somewhere other than 'My Documents'?
Is Office responsible for the 'save' or is that a Windows function?

Thank you
Steve

office uses the windows namespace for My Documents - you can move My
Documents (right click on the folder, choose properties) and it affects all
programs that use the name space.

As an alternative, add your favorite locations to the places bar - select
the folder and look on the tools menu of the office file explorer.

Hi Steve,

Most of the apps provide a means to change the default folder under
Tools/Options. The exact location varies, could be the General tab or
File Locations tab, but you should find it. :)

For clarity, you will find it under the File Locations tab. Click Documents
under File Types and click the Modify button. You then browse to the folder
where you keep your stuff and click OK. Not sure about Office 97/earlier,
but it's always under the File Locations tab in the Options dialog box.

Hi Candice,

Yes, for Word it can be found on the File Locations tab.

However the OP asked about all Office apps. Excel, PowerPoint, and
Access do not have a File Locations tab. For Excel and Access it's on
the General tab and as of PowerPoint 2000 it's on the Save tab (it's
on the Advanced tab in PowerPoint 97).

Thus the statement in my post: "the exact location varies". :)
