Office Picture Manager - Disabled editing functions

D

David Driscole

Does anyone have any idea why my Office picture manager functions might be
disabled?

I can't select any option to edit, resize or any pictures as per the help
menu.

The edit functions are momentarily visible, every time I start Picture
Manager. Then I'm prompted with the 'Microsoft Office Activiation Wizard' to
purchase Office 2007. After correctly putting in the product key, the program
asks me to close all office programs and restart for changes to be made into
effect.

And I'm back to square one. Can open Picture Manager, edit functions are
visible temporarily, but I can't use them as the Microsoft Office Activation
Wizard gets in the way.

If I select Close in Microsoft Office Activation Wizard, all the edit
functions are disabled (i.e. the are greyed out and I can't use them).

Any idea? Thanks, David

I've just discovered that my trial period for the current installed Microsoft
Office 2007 expired in May. Is office picture manager one of the programs
that only works with Microsoft Office Professional 2007? All of my other
Office programs work fine.

Hello Joann

I have the same problem. As far as I know, the system I am using did not
have a trial version of the software installed. Where do I need to go to
find the trial version? I have searched the computer but do not see a
Picture Manager application. I looked in the Office folder under programs
and did not find the application. Picture Manager does not show up in
Add/Remove programs. I do not recall seeing an option to install Picture
Manager when I installed Office.

Thank you
Dave (not David Driscole)

Pop your disks back in and do a Custom Install. I've heard it's buried a bit
in there.

Microsoft Office Picture Manager is included in all versions of Office 2003
and Office 2007.

One solution for you for Windows XP and Office 2007:
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and select your version of
Office 2007.
Click on Change and select the radio button: Add or Remove Features.
Click the plus sign next to Office Tools.
Find Microsoft Office Picture Manager in the list of tools and click the
down arrow.
Select Run from My Computer
Click OK to install.

Solution {you install Picture Manager} is the same for Windows 2003 and
Vista while the specific steps may vary.

In Office 2007, Picture Manager is an optional install unless you have
previously installed the application as part of Office 2003.
If you have installed Picture Manager from Office 2003, the Office 2007
Picture Manager is installed automatically.

Thanks all for your input.

I've uninstalled the Office 2007 version of Office Picture viewer from VISTA
and re-installed Office 2003 version.

I don't have any install disks for VISTA. Not the ideal solution but a
suitable work around.

Similar problem - have MS Office 2003 with Picture Manager setup then
installed a Trial One Note Vista. At the end of the trial One Note didn't
work (expected) but then neither did Picture Manager.

The only way I could get it working was uninstall the One Note Trial, and
Picture Manager and then re-install Picture Manager.

Sorry Microsoft but a bit of a cock-up if you ask me! Does any testing go on
as a 2007 Trial knocking out a 2003 component it would appear not! I have
therefore recommended clients and friends not to touch it until it's sorted
out.

Hooray !!! Microsoft has finally fixed this problem.

They have created a workaround which requires you to overwrite two of the
Office 2007 files with a new file.

You can get the new file and instructions via email from:

***UPDATE***

Please do not send an email to the technician listed in my previous
email...he is being deluged with requests and MS is missing the vital step of
collecting some basic data from you.

Please call 800-936-5700 and ask for the PowerPoint Support Team after your
case has been created.

I just wanted to reinforce Steve's solution.

The first suggestion of the general Microsoft Office 2007 support team
had me uninstall my OEM version of Office Small Business 2007 because
it showed up as "Microsoft Office 2007 System" in the Programs listing
of my Windows Vista Control Panel. Apparently this means you have
aspects of the trial version of Office still installed on your
machine. The Microsoft support tech had me download the trial version
of Office Small Business 2007 from microsoft.com so I could then
"convert" it from the trial version to the "paid for" version.

Installing the trial version of Office Small Business 2007 fixed my
Microsoft Office Picture Manager issue, but the trial version didn't
"convert" with the CD key I had for my OEM Office 2007 version - like
I figured it wouldn't. I finally got transferred to a Power Point
support team member who knew the problem - especially after I
explained it from reading these posts. For whatever reason, Microsoft
Office Picture Manager falls under the Power Point support team.

Anyway, he emailed me a 1.88KB replacement file named ID_10031.DPC to
replace the current file in these two directories

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup
Controller\Prohybridr

This finally fixed this irritating problem - and he even suggested
that I tell others about this fix.

So, as Steve said, give Microsoft a call at 800-936-5700, get a case
number, specifically ask for the Power Point support team, and ask for
this replacement file to fix your Picture Manger issue.

Cheers,
Phil

Shannon

I called Microsoft with your suggested fix and they wanted to charge me $49
to connect me to the Power Point support team. If anyone has that problem,
be sure to refer the the customer service representative to this posting, and
ask that they classify your call as an Office "update". The customer service
representative I talked to told me that qualified me for the tech support
without charge.

Phil

This is Bull! Obviously a problem in Office 2007, Microsoft how about
publishing a fix for this! We should not have to call to get an
obvious fix for an obvious problem. Sign me: An OEM System Builder.
