office problem

After receiving windows update (2000) unable to run
office - Getting message "This patch package could not be
opened. Verify that the path package exists and that you
can access it." Tried un-installing but I get the same
message. Tried re-installing from disk - get the same
message - any ideas - Have tried Window installer cleanUp
Utility but it does not show office program mci.dll ver 2.0
