Office Product Key invalid message

After successfully installing Office 2007 (Power Point, Word, Access, Excel,
Publisher components) on a desktop, I am trying to install only Word on a
netbook. But after the installation, the Product Key window pops up and when
I carefully enter the key I get "Product Key Invalid" message.
It was necessary to re-install Office a couple of times on the desktop due
to harddrive failure and then replacement, so have I used up the allowable
installations? I also looked on the XP system netbook to see if there are
trial versions on the drive, and I find none.

What can I do?

You can first tell us where exactly you are getting this product key
from? Are you getting it from the base of your computer/laptop or are
you getting it on the sleeve/inside cover of the CD box? If it is from
the base of your system then you are likely to be using a Windows
product key (NOT OFFICE PRODUCT KEY). These are two different keys for
two different products!

"Product Key Invalid" error message suggests that you are entering an incorrect product key. Are you sure you are correctly reading B instead of 8 or 0 instead of O etc etc. Perhaps the use of a magnifying glass may improve your reading.

The Product Key I'm entering is from the label on the CD sleeve for Office.
I have had at least three other pairs of eyes checking the digits. And I
used this same product key when I installed and then reinstalled the program
on the desktop without any problem.

So, I am at a loss.....

Is this an OEM version of Office, or did you buy it separately?

It was purchased separately at a local college when I took a course requiring
it. The CD is a genuine Microsoft product and is Office Professional Plus
2007 Win32 Student Media. It works fine on my desktop which is Windows
Vista. The netbook is Windows XP, which shouldn't make a difference.
But I need it on my netbook now for a summer course.

I think you need to read the EULA. It may be that your purchase is
restricted to one install only.

Office Professional Plus 2007 Win32 Student Media (procured from your Educational
Institution). It works fine >on my desktop which is Windows

Now it tells the story. VL (Volume License ) Good for a single install which you did
already on your Desktop.

The EULA states it may be installed on one system and one mobile device. And
would it not say something on the order of "installation allotment has been
exceeded", instead of "Product Key invalid"?
Many others in the class have installed their Office CDs on a desktop and a
laptop/netbook without any problem.

Presumably you are entering the correct Product Key? Where are you
getting the Product Key from?

Product Key is from the original CD sleeve for this Office software. Others
have also assisted with the characters to be sure they are accurately entered.
