When I open MSWord, the first thing it does is ask to be connected to
the internet.

What is it looking for?

Word 2003, Tools, Options, General tab. Click on Service Options. Likely
one of your selections for Customer Feedback or Online Content is causing
the connection attempt.

Since I never let it connect, maybe not. (But I'm not getting any "you
haven't activated yet" messages). I'll let it go next time - that's
probably it (I noticed that Excel stopped calling home - but I don't
remember if I let it through once).

Don

I had feedback turned off, but not the online content options. Thank you.

I've had this occur with Office 2K - on an intermittent basis. Not only at
startup, but for each document opened as well. Apply the usual solution to
MS problems - reboot!
