I'd look at it this way. If you bought the software it is yours. You could run over it with a bulldozer or send it to the North Pole. It's yours. Now the way to be sure and I suppose comfortable with what you want to do go ahead and buy the one copy. Then install it in your desktop. To use the software you will be asked to send info to Microsoft. Do that and you should get an activation thank you. Now install the same copy in your Laptop. Again you should be asked to activate it. If you do and you get back the Thank you then I suppose you haven't done anything wrong. If you don't then you did, eh? In which case you will probably be provided with a Microsoft toll-free phone number to let them know why you did what you did.
