Office Professional necessary?

Running Win2003 on a x64 server. This box is set up as a term server. It
runs 2003 Office just fine. I have 10 CALS and I've had 4,5,6 connections
and each person can run Office. Few years back I tried to upgrade to Office
2007 and it didn't work. The term sessions couldn't run Office. I seem to
recall that MS had changed something and I had to get new licenses or some
such. I just didn't do the upgrade. Now I HAVE to do the upgrade. I called
MS and they said yep, you have to buy Office Professional Plus. You have to
buy bulk licenses which come in a minimum pack of 5 at about $500 each. This
stinks! I have one part time employee that needs to connect to the term
server.

Question: If I just buy regular Office 2007 can I load it to this box and
have it work at all? What if I set up the box so that it is no longer a term
server? I think that can be done and a person can still have 2 remote
connections. That's all I need. I can't afford this new model. I can't
afford 2 buy $2500 worth of licenses for 1 person to dial in for a couple
hours/week.

thanks,

Russ

I would strongly recommend removing Terminal Services, as you mention there,
and then purchasing whatever edition of Office 2007 that suits your
employee's needs. From what I gather, the other TS connections are no longer
necessary?
