office programs flash every 6 seconds

I am using office 2003 and outlook 2007 BCM. In word, excel in outlook I get
what looks like a flashing of the screen every 6 seconds. when in outlook
the cursor goes from and arrow (regularpointer) to an hourglass to a cursor
and back to an arrow. This pulsing or flashing in the program is very
bothersome and cause typing to be stalled. No other programs react this way
Only my office programs.
I have of course run antivirus and antispyware progams and have no
infections. So I hope someone has an idea what is causing this and can help!

Any desktop search application running?
Or any Office intergration with your AV?
Tried it in Safe Mode?

yes I have windows search and Norton Internet Security 2008, safe mode did
not help. I did get the excel to stop flashing by turn the program launch
monitoring to manual and adding excel to the list. Thank you for that! I
couldn't even type in excel because when it would run so slow... I put
outlook and word in and they did not improve. I turned off all norton
protections but outlook and word still do this flashing. additionally I
added desktop search to the program monitoring. still no fix. Any more
ideas?

I have also found this flash happening in quicken?

Figured it out, it was spoolsv.exe, as soon as it is canceled. all problems
stop. Thankyou quicken support.
