Office programs open slowly Win98

Hi
If someone could help I would appreciate it.
When I open a word or excel document from the desktop,
start documents, or selecting a file from windows explorer
the program hangs for a while then opens the working
document, about 1 minute later.
The crazy thing is if I open the program first then select
the working file within the folder structure it opens
error free?
Also system resource seems ok at about 65%
I have windows 98, I have uninstalled the Office 97 suite
and reinstalled same probelm occurs.
When I open MS Word the following error comes up "Compile
error in hidden module: This document"

For problem #1)
Does this behavior(slow file opening) only occur when the Filename has
spaces in it?

For Problem #2)

Do you have Adobe Acrobat installed?
