Office Reminder Sound doesn't work

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I have it set for "on", but no sound when reminder is due. This is very important to the way I work. I don't always notice when a new reminder shows up on the Reminder window.

Any suggestions?
