Office serial numbers???

P

puskas

Hello all,

Does anyone know how to find out the serial number under OfficeX and
Office04. I have been looking everywhere and can't find it.

I am needing to get all of this information together for an upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

It's the CD Key or Product Key on the yellow sticker on the cd case, or
elsewhere in the packaging. You can't dig it out of the software--and I
don't think I've heard of any third-party utilities for the Mac to enable
you to.

If you no longer have the packaging, MS KB:
How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=326246

Says

Replacement of CD or Product Keys
To replace a CD or Product Key, you must contact PSS. To locate the
appropriate phone number for your product, visit the following Microsoft Web
site:

Hi -

If you are referring to Product IDs, launch any Office app & go to "It's"
Menu>About "It". The #s are in the About window.

Thanks chaps,

It is the serial number i'm looking for. So it looks as if it is going
to be a nightmare to try and get them back.

Cheers

Which "serial numbers" are you talking about?

The CD Key comes on the installation CD package. This should be easy to
recover if you still have the install CD.

The Product ID is a number which is generated on the machine, in part
from the CD Key, via, I believe, a one-way hash. It is easily recovered
by checking the "About" menu.

Note that, to physically upgrade, knowing the CD Key or the Product ID
is neither required nor useful - Office 2004's First Run app looks for a
valid installation on the machine, or a valid install CD of a previous
version. If you need it for some sort of volume license application,
that's a different story, of course.
