Office Service Pack - Excel no longer opens

P

PatrickCOEME

I installed Office 2007 Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System
(KB947801) and Office 2007 Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1
(SP1) for my computer and the last one Office 2002/XP Office XP Service Pack
3 did not finish installing saying I needed the XP Professional disk. Office
came packaged with my computer and everything still works, except Excel no
longer opens because it asks for the disk and I don't think I have it. Is
there any way to get it back working? I am a student in mechanical
engineering and I need Excel to work while studying at home. It is Excel 2002.

You can try calling your computer manufacturer and asking them where the
files are located and how to access them.

So I do need this disk in order to proceed, then? It has never asked for one
before and I don't see it would be any different now, esp during a Microsoft
Update. Is there no other fix???

If it's asking for the disk, you need either the disk or you need to point
to where that file is located. Since your copy of Office was preinstalled,
the manufacturer can tell you where they've hidden it.

Ok, but worst case scenario. I don't have a disk because it came from another
source. What would I have to do? Because it seems like there would be a
product key that it is verying or something?

Let's assume you paid for that license of XP and the "other source" kept the
disk, the "other source" owes you that disk because without it you're hosed.
If you are using a "borrowed copy".......well, you're still hosed.
