Office Settings and Defaults

Mike

Hello,

I recently bought a new computer. When I installed Office 2007 on it I
noticed something weird: the "default" settings were completely different
from the default settings on my old computer. I compared the default settings
on both of my computers with those of my friends and it turns out that the
Office copy on my new computer is the messed up one.

The thing is, I used exactly the same disc for both computers. So why I am
getting different results?

I managed to import my old settings (ie proper defaults) onto my new
administrator account, but I can't find a way to apply it to all users (I
have 4 user accounts on my comp).

In summary, I need help with either one of two things:

1. Why are the default settings different on Comp A vs Comp B? How can I fix
this?

2. OR, How can I change the default settings for ALL users on my computer?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

So what do you mean by 'default settings'?
Did your new PC have a preinstalled Trial that you failed to uninstall
first?

For example, Microsoft help says that it is a default setting for a bullet
point to be automatically created when you type “* “. However, the Office
copy on my new computer does not do this.

My new computer did come with a trial, but I uninstalled it right away so I
don't see how that could be a problem. Unless it kept the setting files or
something (would it do that though?)

I also uninstalled my full copy, then I hunted for every Office file that I
could find - deleted them, and then ran another installation. I still have
the same "abnormal" defaults though.

You can't share licensed copies of Office with your friend.

That's not what he said. He said that the settings on his new computer were
different from the ones on his old computer...

I cannot think of a Word setting that may have changed, perhaps try a post
to the Word specific group with regard the '*' / bullet point issue

Is it possible you have set a different keyboard in the operating system
that accounts for this?
