Office Shortcut Bar gone in Office 2003?

Is the Office Shortcut Bar available in any of the
versions of Office 2003? If so, does it get installed by
default, or do you have to perform a custom install?

Thanks,
Sophia

It has been stated previously in this newsgroup that the shortcut bar is
gone for good. You can try using the Windows QuickLaunch toolbar
instead. (I've been using Quicklaunch for the last few years and prefer
it over the Office shortcut bar.)

Sophia: You need to go to accessories - find the tool
bar and click on it one time. After that, it should
install during startup.

Hi Bud,

Unfortunately, that won't work in Office 2003.
The Office Shortcut Bar (OSB)was discontinued after
Office XP/2002.

There are apparently free 3rd party toolbars that some folks say
they like using including one that is similar to use to the OSB
http://jetaudio.com/products/jettoolbar
and one that is a bit more techie oriented but with
added features.

It is not available in Office 2003. It was taken out by Microsoft because
the existing Office Toolbar design would not properly display the new Office
2003 icons. Rather than simply scrap the redesigned Office 2003 icons like
almost anybody with a small peice of a brain would have done and just reuse
the old icons which were perfectly adequate Microsoft decided to remove a
dearly beloved feature of Microsoft Office. Even though there was more than
ample time during the beta testing process for Microsoft to have fixed the
problem right. I hear Microsoft employs over 2000 people on the Microsoft
Office team.

One can reinstall just the Office Toolbar from Office XP or 2000. But the
Office icons will display as "faded out" and not very pretty.
