Office SP-3 "This update cannot be applied" Why?

Our users have same make, model, and memory for their PCs
which are running Windows 2000 SP3. All users have
Office 2000 SR-1 installed. I am trying to install Office
SP-3 and it works on some of the PCs but not others. On
over half, the upgrade goes fine but on about 30%, I
get "This update cannot be applied." I try installing SR-
1A and get "You already have MS-Office SR-1". Tried
installing just the Registry Repair and then SP-3 and
get "This update cannot be applied" again.

My gut feeling is that I may have to uninstall Office on
the "bad" PCs and reinstall but I am hoping that someone
has a better, less time-consuming idea.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm having the same problems, on two different machines. Tried
uninstalling and installing from network and from cd, to no avail. I'm
still researching if you find something let me know thanks. I think im
going to update the MSI INSTALLER.

We are experiencing the same issues on about 10000
machines. We are running o2k sr1/msi installer 2.0. It
errors out on the upgrade to sp3. The only work around we
have found is to do an uninstall and reinstall AFTER
slipstreaming sp3 into our admin share ;-)
