Office Standard 2007 WORD Problem

When I start Word the program comes up with a new document, but I cannot do
anything with the document. The program will let me go to the word options,
but will not do anything but edit the Popular tab.
IF I start Word with the "winword.exe /a "option Word runs fine. I have
removed and reloaded the Office Standard software and, I have done the repair
several times, the problem persists.
PLEASE HELP ME!

that in Word 2007 the template to be renamed is called Normal.dotm
instead of Normal.dot; and if you need to delete the Data key, the
version number is 12.0. Otherwise the instructions all apply to 2007
as in previous versions.
