Office Standard 4.2.1 with OS 9.0?

Trying to help someone with an iMac running OS 9.0 and Office Standard
4.2.1.

Having trouble with page numbering, so I did a full install. There is
no "File/Save" or "Preferences" in the menus, and the page nimbering
still doesn't work. Looks ok on screen, but prints with "{page}" where
number should be.

She calles MS, and they said she had to upgrade to Office 2001. I
assume Standard 4.2.1 to 2001 is not a free upgrade.

It was working fine for 2 months.

Should Standard 4.2.1 work on an iMac with OS 9.0?

Any thoughts on what is going on here?

and uncheck "Field Codes". I guess there's no longer support for Office
4.2.1 - too long ago - so the MS support person cannot offer support. But
it's the same in all versions of Word. Office 4.2.1 (that's Word 6, right?)
is no longer supported by MS, and may not work, even in Classic (?) in some
versions of OS X. But it should go on working in OS 9. (Interesting that
your friend paid for OS upgrades to OS 9 and isn't still stuck in OS 8.1 or
System 7.5 which is about when Office 4.2.1 came out.)

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - **2004**, X
or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.

Unfortunately, Office 4.2.1 is not compatible with OS 9. Check out the
