office standard on Vista

we recently purchased a new computer. office 2003 was i on our old computer.
we now have a vista and needed to installed office 2007. do we need to
install office 2003 before upgrading and installing 2007 on the new computer?

it is an upgrade office standard 2007.

i wonder if i were to install the upgrade without office 2003 being on the
new computer wether it will just ask me for the product id of the 2003 just
to verify that i have it? what do you think?

You will be prompted for the qualifying product and at that point you'll
have to insert the Office 2003 CD and point to it. You won't have to install
it tho.
