On more than one computer every time I start Word 2007, but not Excel 2007,
I get a screen that runs forever wanting to configure Office as if it is the
first time the program was started. I have let it run to completion but it
still comes on when Word 2007 is started. I can cancel it and Word 2007 will
start. I then get a box that tells me to run the repair utility. I have run
the repair utility but the same problem recurs every time I start Word 2007.
Office 2003 is installed on these computers as well and must remain so
because of file compatibility issues, another gift from Microsoft. If one or
the other must go Office 2003 is more important (as well as runs faster and
uses a more universally recognized file format system).
If this is an insoluble problem I will ditch Office 2007 despite its
exorbitant cost.
The ribbon, installation and start up problems, slow performance, file
format incompatibility: is this the best version of Office yet? Office 2007
and Vista were clearly made for each other and by the same clueless hive
mentality.
Just as Jobs had to come back to redirect Apple Gates may have to come back
to get Microsoft back to programming that actually works like it is supposed
to instead of concentrating on marketing, diversification and the usual
business school garbage that has destroyed American corporate sanity.
