Office Subscription

At a computer show over the weekend, I bought what I thought was Office XP Professional Edition. Today when I went to install it, I looked more closely at the cover of the CD and it reads "Microsoft Office XP Professional Subscription". I have never seen a MS product that has Subscription on it. What does that mean? Will it expire after a while? Will I have to pay money to Microsoft in addition to the vendor?
